Visions and Values for Melbourne's Public Spaces

Architects for Peace will hold a three-part talk series to explore the future of public realm design in Melbourne. Public space in Melbourne doesn't always offer a universal freedom of use, especially as local governments are entering into public-private partnerships. What does this mean for spaces that are the heart of our urban communities? How can the planning and design of public spaces better align with citizen's cultural and civic values and needs?

UPCOMING TALK:

TALK 2: THE CIVIC VALUE OF PUBLIC SPACES

Guest speakers: David Pryor (Place Design Studio), Jonathan Daly (The Sensory City)

Date: Friday 21st September, 2018
Time: 6.30pm - 8.30pm
Location: East Melbourne Library  - 122 George Street, East Melbourne VIC 3022

PAST TALKS - REFLECTIONS

EMBRACING A NEW ECONOMY AND VISION FOR PUBLIC SPACES

06.09.2018

We heard from Darren Sharp (Social Surplus), Yvonne Meng (Circle Studio Architects) and Michael Smith (Atelier Red Black) on grassroots and citizen-led solutions for shared public assets, ways in which to understand social and regulatory territories in the development of public and private interfaces in urban spaces and, the economic and political considerations that "invest in our community" and shape the sense of local and national place identity.

Thank you to our three guest speakers for an engaging and informative talk.
